Ear Health Consultation
Full assessment of your ear health. Your practitioner will examine the outside of your ear and look inside the ear canal, using an otoscope (as shown in the picture).
He will be looking for any signs of current or previous infection, other medical conditions of the ear and for any build up of wax which might be causing symptoms of discomfort, hearing loss or tinnitus.
He will then discuss what he has found and then suggest ear wax removal or perhaps just advice instead. In some cases it may be necessary to refer back to the GP (in cases of infection, for instance). Microsuction removal might still be possible even if this is the case.

Ear Microsuction
Microsuction is a newer, safer way of removing an excess of wax. The wax is removed by a tiny, sterilised suction probe placed in the ear canal to gently suck out the build up.
As against, older water irrigation techniques, It is cleaner and more comfortable for the patient and only requires oiling the ears for a couple of days beforehand. Because there is no use of water being introduced into the canal, there is much less likelihood of infection following the procedure.
The clinician uses high magnification ‘loupes’ and a light to see directly into the patients ear canal so they can accurately view any blockage and remove it safely.

Manual removal
Although most people find microsuction extremely comfortable, occasionally some are sensitive to it. This is sometimes found in people who suffer from tinnitus, vertigo or dizziness.
Usually taking things slowly, at the patient’s pace, is sufficient to deal with these sensitivities but, if not, ear wax or other debris can be safely removed manual, using specialised sterile tools inserted into the ear.
Some ear wax build up is too large for the microsuction probe and a combination of manual extraction and microsuction is required to remove the debris.

Safe and Effective
We examine your ears first to assess the amount of ear wax build up and if you are suitable for microsuction.

Appointment Preparation
To get the best outcome from your microsuction, it helps to soften any hard ear wax first by using an olive oil spray for 1 -2 days into the ear canal before your appointment.

Benefits of Microsuction
Microsuction is a superior alternative to traditional methods. Previously ear wax removal was done by ear syringing which involved forcing water down the ear canal to dislodge the wax. However, this was not really that efficient and often led to irritation of the ear lining and possible infection.
Microsuction is quick and easy, usually painless and very effective.
Removing a build up of wax can restore better hearing, ease that sense of feeling pressure inside the ear and reduce tinnitus.
